Lost – ‘The Incident Parts 1 & 2′ – 5.16 & 5.17

theincident1

Screw Lost.

I want to talk about Fringe.

Here’s a show I derided all season. Kept starting and restarting more times than the Lohan/Ronson debacle. Was on again/off again more times than Ross and Rachel. (Who? What?) And then I settled down and started watching it again a few weeks back – largely buoyed by the Leonard Nimoy casting and bullied by our own Carlos. (I kid! I kid!!!)

And it all paid off beautifully in an epic season finale that drew the blueprint for how to close out a season strong. ‘There is More Than One of Everything’ answered some major questions that simply opened the portal to an entire alternate universe of unending possibilities. And then J.J. Abrams and his crack team of writers/strategists shuttered the night with one final, haunting image that... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘Follow the Leader’ – 5.15

leader-3a

After five seasons, I’ve cracked the formula to a Lost season-ender. We always get the finale in 3 acts. The penultimate episode always serves as Act 1 – using the hour to set the board and push all of the pieces in motion. Then, we get served a 2 hour opus that leaves us staggered by the end – sent off into the Summer wondering how five months could fly so swiftly and bemoaning the fact that the next eight would slow to a  nice, Southern drawl.

So, that second-to-last episode is always bittersweet. I’m one of those types who enjoy the journey as much as the destination. I love being left hanging, so I crave these eps where we’re left to wonder what it all means – knowing full well that while some elements put in place will be answered in 7 days – other pieces will meld into the over... Lost – ‘The Variable’ – 5.14

variable1

A few weeks back, I confessed to my on again, off again relationship with Fringe – JJ Abrams other cool little sci-fi enterprise airing over on Fox. At the time I mentioned that I have been picking it up and dropping it several times over the season as everything about its pedigree hits me right where I tick, yet the execution leaves me cold.

Based on that true confession, one of our faithful readers, Carlos, implored me to give it another shot. That, coupled with the news that Old Spock is due to join the cast at the end of this season, compelled me to go for that 3rd time charm.

And guess what – I’m kinda’ digging it. At least, I’ve dug the last three episodes and am looking forward to next week’s preamble to the big finale airing on Tuesday May 12th. So Carlos, my hats off to y... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘Some Like it Hoth’ – 5.13

hoth2

Sorry for the late-ish post. My handy dandy screen cap site decided to sleep in again this morning – meaning I had to put this on the backburner. Sure, I had the words crafted, but without the pretty pics, the piece just doesn’t feel whole. I have to keep this site nice and visual for you, my adoring ADD-addled masses.

Assuming you took your meds and paid attention to next week’s teaser, you know that we have another mini-hiatus staring us down. Lost is taking an April Vacation siesta and won’t be back with a new episode until Wednesday April 29th.  And then, over the course of 3 short weeks, we’ll have our race to the finish. That’s right – only 4 more episodes left this season and 2 of them are smashed together on one night – the May 13th Season Finale.

And then I can get started on my Re... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘Dead is Dead’ – 5.12

deadisdead4

Earlier this season, I gave Lost co-creator JJ Abrams’ new show, Fringe, a two episode try-out. I was a huge X-Files fan and, of course, really dig Abrams’ myth-building skills (as evidenced by my devotion to this property) – so this show seemed right in my wheel house. Well, two episodes in and I couldn’t hack it. It felt like someone jammed my chocolate X-Files into their CSI peant butter and instead of it being a fresh, delectable treat it was one of those moldy movie theater snacks that a dollar theater will keep in the concessions case for 5 years past its Born On Date.

How’s that for an image? Well, I speak from experience, having the extreme misfortune of biting into a Reeses that had turned white during some midday matinee of Backdraft back at that old Cameo ... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘What Happened, Happened’ – 5.11

Oh how I wish my Lost recap had landed on April 1st. I would have treated you all to an in-depth dissertation of Sin City – that made for Skinemax soft-core smut that I’ve stumbled upon once or twice or repeatedly. So many mysteries to ponder in that one. Alas, we had to settle for me pimping the site out for one day only and judging by the hits, it appears some of my long-time readers are looking to spice up their lives. Shhhh, I won’t tell if you don’t.

Anyway, that’s over now as we turn the page into April, knowing we are a scant 6 weeks away from the end of this show. And then I can rest my weary fingers for another year. Hopefully in the 9 months that elapse between the end of Season 5 and the beginning of Season 6, you’ll forget all about the fact that I seem to posit one theory ... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘He’s Our You’ – 5.10

ouryou1

This whole season I’ve been claiming that there are 16 episodes for Season 5 and 16 for Season 6 – and then done. I just took a look at a site that keeps the schedule of upcoming episodes and it looks like they’ve added one for this season. According to the latest schedule, Episode 17 airs May 20th. It’s listed as an hour long and we know Lost usually closes things out with a two hour episode so this is subject to change – they may move an episode to that time slot in order to present a two-hour event. Either way, we get 17 hours this season and 16 next season. That’s the good news.

The bad news is we are now 10 deep – meaning there are only 6 or 7 nights left for this season. It’ll be over before you know it. On the flip side, once it’s over it’s practically summer, so I say Bring It... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘Namaste’ – 5.9

namaste4

Like those crafty numbers, strange forces are conspiring to prevent me from getting these weekly dispatches into your grubby little mitts. Two weeks ago, alongside episode 5.8 ‘LaFleur‘, my trusty screencap site decided to withhold the crucial giant statue shot.

And then this week, the island’s influence infected my DVR and chose, among the 60+ programs slated for recording during the week (99% of which belong to the Backyardigan variety), to tease me by starting a recording of Lost at 9:00 p.m. EST Wednesday night and ending it at 9:01 p.m. EST. A measly one-minute recording that I then spent the better half of 60 additional minutes pausing and rewinding to insure I wasn’t missing something. I checked and rechecked Lost on the Prioritization schedule and there it was, sitting pretty at... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘LaFleur’ – 5.8

lafleur5

[UPDATED - My main man OB1 (aka Sean) has come through with a shot of the statue. I've added it below).

You know what? We needed a breather. And that’s what last night’s Sawyer-centric episode delivered. A chance for us to slow down a bit and get our bearings straight. And in the end, it offered up more evidence that Sawyer is the heart of this show. I’ve been saying it all along. This guy is the Han Solo of the piece. His rough, rugged exterior hides a heart 3 sizes too big.

In year’s past, there used to be a slower episode where the plot ground to a halt and we were served up some throwaway flashback. Things have changed. With few hours left to go in this tale, even these sweet little sojourns offer up compelling information. So, while Sawyer and company may be canoodling with the hi... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham’ – 5.7

dharmed-3

I always try to lead with some non-sequitor (or at least, something that isn’t a direct commentary on the actual show content) so we’ll go with this. I’m really digging Lost’s placement on the schedule. Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. just does a great job of bisecting the week for me. I find myself beginning each work week with a slight spring in my step, knowing a new installment is only a few short days away and then by the time I’ve soaked it all in – it’s almost the weekend again.

Now, what will I do when the show departs the airwaves in May 2010. Maybe adopt Bromance as my personal savior. And with that, I apply a hearty pat on the back for knowing that I have zero knowledge of when THAT show even airs. Yeah, next May I’m going to have to light a candle. (sniffle).

With that said, on wit... Continue reading »
