Damn, I’m still here… and looking awfully ridiculous in these ruby red slippers.
Well, that does it. Another season done. Another series of puzzles to ponder in the agonizing nine-month wait until Season 5 starts up. When next we meet again, we’ll have turned the page to 2009. A new President will be in office. Gas prices will finally peak at $48.15 a gallon, up significantly from the previous high of $16.23 that afflicted at least 42 of our continental United States. And the Red Sox will have won their 3rd World Championship in Five Years (you know they’re just doing it for Jack and his Dad).
But, we’ve been through this before. We had the long layover last year followed by t... Continue reading »

This time of year is always bittersweet. As our favorite shows come to an end, we look ahead to the summer and see nothing but a vacant wasteland – the color of television tuned to a dead channel. At the same token, we see bright sunny days meaning we can actually get our collective asses off the couch and actually enjoy some fresh air for a change.
And the loss of Lost means I don’t have to feel the pressure of my fierce editors (that would be you, you demanding Constant Readers) bellowing at me to produce this week’s installment of my weekly observations the moment the clock hits 11:00 p.m. EST Thursday eve.
That said, we know that when the last moment ticks off the two hour season finale scheduled to air on Thursday May 29th that unlike most other shows, we have a long wait ahead of us. May 29th... Continue reading »

I think I’m coming down with Cabin Fever.
It’s episodes like last night mythology heavy installment, Cabin Fever, that prove how intricately plotted and dramatically dense this show can be. This is why I watch the show. While getting answers can be rewarding, sometimes it’s more fun to keep tunneling down the rabbit’s hole. As long as you feel faith in the show’s creators to keep the narrative on track, it can be deliriously invigorating to be plopped in the midst of mystery with scant clues to go on and try to work your way back to some semblance of a clue. That’s why I got hooked on Twin Peaks two decades ago and why I spent the better part of the 90’s paging through The X-Files.
And it’s why I grooved on every little morsel and clue doled out in last night’s Locke-centric Cabin Fever... Continue reading »

Is it just me or did that month fly? When Lost went on hiatus we were still under the threat of winter storm activity and now that I write this, the mercury has hit 76 degrees. One would think that the journey from sub-zero temps to pleasant Spring days would take longer, but that calendar page tore itself with reckless abandon. So, the good news is I didn’t miss the show very much because it didn’t seem like it was gone too long.
A lot of that might have to do with how AMAZING last night’s episode was. I’m going to spare y’all the suspense. This one earns 5 Mooninites (a rarity on these pages) and I’m tempted to toss in a few Koopas and an Ebert head for good measure. It was that good.
Anyway, we have a LOT to chew on so without further adieu, on with the show.

Whew. Made it to the end. Next up I’m going to tackle a 300 page dissertation of Gossip Girl. Anyone know what channel it’s on? By anyone, I mean Sean.
The good news with this post is we are now days away from Lost’s triumphant return. Lost’s return marks the beginning of May Sweeps which means Summer is right around the corner. I an ready for some warm weather, stat. I’ve got to get out of this house and away from the PC and TV – get some UV.
So far, we’ve tackled the Smoke Monster, the Numbers, Jacob, the Hatches, the Orientation Tapes, Charles Widemore/Alvar Hanso, The Island’s Healing Powers, Time Anomalies and the mysterious Walt. Today I offer up the three final mysteries.
On with the show.

Previously on Lost.
Seriously, that’s what these posts are starting to read like. Who knows what vital knowledge has been chased from my brain in my drive to compile an encyclopedic volume of Lost minutiae. Hey, anything for my rabid readers. My children, Carter and Ariel, thank ya’ as well.
Anyway, last week we covered ol’ Smokey, those devilish digits and jumpin’ Jacob’s flash. This week, we delve into ‘The Hatch’, pour through the Orientation tapes and finish off with an introduction to the billionaire boys club of Alvar Hanso and Charles Widemore.
On with the show.

And so begins this new series, I’m SOOOOOOOO Lost, dedicated to ticking off the big mysteries behind our favorite show. Ya’ really gotta’ hand the Internet its props. Do you think Alf garnered such fanboy enthusiasm back in the day?
“So, uhhhh, who do you think ate the cat? Me, I say it’s either Gordon Chumway or… Willie!!!”
Anyway, as I mentioned in my introductory post, this series will run for the next four Fridays (this one included) – basically serving as a little appetizer before the series resumes proper for its final run through May sweeps on April 24th. Over the course of the next four weeks, I’ll offer up three major themes per week and list out (in my typical bullet-point fashion) what we know and what remains unresolved regarding these overarching elements to the central mystery of Lost.
I implore y’all, especially those w... Continue reading »
