Modeling Clay

What a performance! Last night, Clay Buchholz, tossed a no-hitter in only his second major league start. A day earlier and we wouldn’t be having this conversation, as Buchholz was called up due to the league’s September 1st roster expansion. Wearing Sox unies, I’ve seen Hideo Nomo and Derek Lowe pitch no-nos but this was far and away the most special. And it came at the exact time we needed it most. Sometimes it takes that Herculean feat to right the ship as you steam ahead towards the playoffs. Here’s hoping Clay provided that charge.

Nighty Night

I love flicks set in snowy environs. Now if only someone would get around to making a wintry apocalypse flick where one man has to stave off the advances of homicidal snowmen, I’d be sound as a pound. Anyway, on the heels of the I Am Legend trailer comes this peak at the Sam Raimi produced 30 Days of Night. Two great trailers in two days. This one looks bleak and promising as hell.

Legendary

The first teaser for the Will Smith flick – I Am Legend - based on the classic Richard Matheson novel, has been released. I’ve got to say, I am a huge fan of apocalyptic flicks and this one has me excited. Any time you take a huge city and empty it out and leave the roads strewn with empty automobiles like so many crushed cans, I get a real charge. Loved the look of the trailer and am really looking forward to this. A great teaser.

P.S. That first image (Will, his puppy and a big rifle curled up in that bath tub) is a killer.

Gathering Moss

By now, everyone has heard the INCREDIBLY SHOCKING NEWS that the Patriots scored NFL bad boy, Randy Moss, for a 4th Round draft pick this past weekend. ESPN’s Sports Guy, Bill Simmons, has a great piece that touches on the weekend’s festivities and spotlights the five possible explanations for Belichick’s gambit. It’s a great read and very funny. I pulled the following from his piece but you really should go read the whole thing now. Great stuff from that guy… as always. Anyway, Bill writes:

“You have to admit, at the very least, we have the greatest “Madden” offense in Patriots history: Brady, Maroney, Watson, Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Caldwell, Gaffney, Brown. I mean … are you kidding me? Can I run a seven-receiver offense next year? Is that legal?”

The First Rule of Fight Club… SMASH!!!

Aint it Cool News has been running rumors which have just been confirmed by a piece in Variety earlier today. Edward Norton has been cast as Bruce Banner in the forthcoming Hulk sequel. These comic flicks just keep impressing with their casting. I’ve already gushed about the way The Dark Knight is coming together and now seeing Tyler Durden’s best bud cast as the conflicted Bruce Banner makes for a nice bit of synergy.

No Escape

John Carpenter must be spinning in his grave. I read this morning that the trifecta is complete – there are now remakes of his three greatest movies in the works. While Rob Zombie continues toiling on his Halloween remake and Ronald Moore polishes the script for The Thing redux, now comes word that producer Neal Moritz is shopping Escape from New York with 300′s King Leonidis (Gerard Butler) as Snake Plissken. I said it before and I’ll say it again. If Carpenter must be remade, why don’t we fix those flicks that had great ideas but were botched in execution. Where’s the love for Prince of Darkness or In the Mouth of Madness???

Scooby’s Last Bite?

Posted by Sean

The Scooby Speak domain is going to expire on March 3rd and I have no intention of renewing it, at least out of my own pocket. If, by some miracle, there is public outcry to preserve this neglected domain, speak your mind here (and prepare to pay up).

As for the content and blog, I’ll likely not get around to moving it to my someword.com domain — maybe scooby.someword.com — until over the coming weekend. Again, if there’s no public outcry to preserve it, maybe I won’t bother…

Two Faced

The Hollywood Reporter has a story this morning confirming that Aaron Eckhart is in final negotiations to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Absolutely perfect casting!!! I think Eckhart imparts a nice duality to the role -as he oftens comes across as a noble tough guy one moment and a smooth criminal the next. I am a huge fan of Batman Begins. This sequel can’t come soon enough.

Office Space

Guest directors guide my favorite comedy. Tonight’s episode of The Office is directed by Joss Whedon. Next week, JJ Abrams takes the helm.
