When my wife Andi and I made the decision to move a bit westward – chasing the dream of a bit more square footage and a heaping helping of acreage upon which we could raise some pups and kids – we knew we were taking a big leap into uncharted territory. We certainly had no intention of leaving the state, as the two of us had both grown up on the eastern front of Massachusetts, never more than a 1/2 hour drive to the ocean. And while you’d be hard-pressed to call me a city boy, the small towns we came from were far removed from those Rockwellian fantasies that dotted the Saturday Evening Post. There was some life in them.

Our home towns were quaint but on the move – a nice little swatch of suburbia that boasted sizeable populations yet still allowed one to take a waltz in their backyard... Continue reading »

The Incredible Shrinking Man

On January 15, 2009 – I tipped the scales at 181 pounds and was employed as a vice-president (one of many) at the mid-size financial services tech firm that had employed me ever since those last innocent weeks that bid a fond adieu to Summer 2001 and a grim hello to 9/11.

On July 15, 2009 -  I weigh 147 pounds (give or take a handful depending upon the hour of day and the weight of my weakness for Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats) and am no longer employed by anyone.

For the first time in my life, I find myself in complete control of my will power.

For the second time  in less than a decade, I find my life spiraling out of control at the mere mercy of executive decision and an ever changing business climate.

E3 2009 – The Top 5 Games That I’ve Just Got to Play in 2009

Last week, the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) showered gamers with an deluge of news and announcements highlighting the newest games in store for us this season and beyond. In addition, we saw a potential game-changing move with Microsoft’s unveiling of their self-aware Project Natal. One step closer to Judgment Day with that one.
