[UPDATE - The results are up. Look below for the answers and current Leaderboards. Round 2 will be up by 8:00 a.m. Wednesday April 1, 2009.]
[Editor's Note - The Dawn of the Ed begins today, with my name reaching the cultural zeitgesit by, I'd say, Wednesday at the latest. Yes, today we begin pimping this product big time. You'll notice that starting today, we've begun running a few Google ads which try their best to match the content on display. Clicks here earn us a little coin and every little bit helps. That said, a little later this week, we pull out the big guns with the launch of some image-based ads designed to reap greater revenue. You'd all be doing me a great favor if you gave their wares a look-see. Again, nobody is being asked to buy anything. Just clicking on those image-based ads (as... Continue reading »

This whole season I’ve been claiming that there are 16 episodes for Season 5 and 16 for Season 6 – and then done. I just took a look at a site that keeps the schedule of upcoming episodes and it looks like they’ve added one for this season. According to the latest schedule, Episode 17 airs May 20th. It’s listed as an hour long and we know Lost usually closes things out with a two hour episode so this is subject to change – they may move an episode to that time slot in order to present a two-hour event. Either way, we get 17 hours this season and 16 next season. That’s the good news.
The bad news is we are now 10 deep – meaning there are only 6 or 7 nights left for this season. It’ll be over before you know it. On the flip side, once it’s over it’s practically summer, so I say Bring It... Continue reading »

For those that aren’t on Facebook but frequent this site, I thought I should post this little announcement.
After a little hiatus, I’m back – for one week only – to vex your brains with a mini-series of trivia questions.
For this contest, I have cobbled together three rounds of questions culled from those left over from our past contests. Most I had kept aside in case a tie kick-started a bonus round. With those contests ending their final rounds with a true victor declared, I didn’t need to bust out the extra questions. Well, why let them languish away when I can throw them your way and make or break your day.
The rules are simple. I will run 3 Rounds of 5 Questions Each. Round 1 is Monday. Round 2 will follow on Wednesday. And Round 3 will appear on Friday. Following... Continue reading »

UPDATE - Looks like we’re merely a week away from launching the ads. They should be up sometime next week. Remember, I hope to keep them as unobtrusive as possible but if you can do me a solid and click every time you see a new one, those clicks will help pay for this site.
Well, it’s only taken three years but we’re finally making The Ed Zone into a household name. Or, at the very least, one understood by the regional dialect.
Thanks in part to the Lost posts, Netflix pieces and assorted pop-culture imagery on the site, the hit totals have been skyrocketing over the last year or so – a steady increase that really hit the rafters earlier this year when Lost returned to the airwaves and my site relocated a little bit of world wide web exposure.
The fact th... Continue reading »
Like those crafty numbers, strange forces are conspiring to prevent me from getting these weekly dispatches into your grubby little mitts. Two weeks ago, alongside episode 5.8 ‘LaFleur‘, my trusty screencap site decided to withhold the crucial giant statue shot.
And then this week, the island’s influence infected my DVR and chose, among the 60+ programs slated for recording during the week (99% of which belong to the Backyardigan variety), to tease me by starting a recording of Lost at 9:00 p.m. EST Wednesday night and ending it at 9:01 p.m. EST. A measly one-minute recording that I then spent the better half of 60 additional minutes pausing and rewinding to insure I wasn’t missing something. I checked and rechecked Lost on the Prioritization schedule and there it was, sitting pretty at... Continue reading »

As this decade of enlightenment comes to an end, mankind has made one final mark to show that we’ve come a long way from the starched, buttoned up white collar wastelands of a quarter-decade past. Nowadays, every straight dude is in a Bromance or holding hard to a Man Crush and completely fine with it.
For some it’s a beloved sports figure – with studs like Rocco Baldelli or Tom Brady currying favor with the dudes. Others look to the world of television and share a bizarre infatuation with Zach Braff, who is so femme that I’m not sure it rates as a Man Crush. (I’m not naming names here).
Me? I fixed eyes on the greatest action import of the last 10 years and fell head-over-heels. Read on to find out more.

This installment of Netflix Notes has absolutely nothing to do with good ol’ Sly and that big hunka’ cheese he served hungry fans salivating for cinematic arm-wrestling at long last. Still, I couldn’t resist running with the pic (in the same manner that I kicked off my 28 Days Later posts with a pic of sweet Sandy Bullock.
But the title makes absolute sense for two of the flicks that appear on this list. Buried within are two absolutely insane action movies that defy all sense of physics, logic and good taste and yet end up remarkably compelling – if you’re into their sort of thing.
First up…

[UPDATED - My main man OB1 (aka Sean) has come through with a shot of the statue. I've added it below).
You know what? We needed a breather. And that’s what last night’s Sawyer-centric episode delivered. A chance for us to slow down a bit and get our bearings straight. And in the end, it offered up more evidence that Sawyer is the heart of this show. I’ve been saying it all along. This guy is the Han Solo of the piece. His rough, rugged exterior hides a heart 3 sizes too big.
In year’s past, there used to be a slower episode where the plot ground to a halt and we were served up some throwaway flashback. Things have changed. With few hours left to go in this tale, even these sweet little sojourns offer up compelling information. So, while Sawyer and company may be canoodling with the hi... Continue reading »

After a long winter’s nap, I’m back with some more thrilling installments of Netflix Notes – the riveting recurring series where I let all of you lucky bastards sneak a peak at the flicks that have drifted across my peepers. In essence, I see a movie and then write about it.
Well, more to the point, I try to provide a little bit of background about the flick and whether I recommend it or not but I make a point to not actually review the film. I had enough of that when I was holding the reigns as co-film critic at UMASS Amherst and here on this Blog, I like to divorce myself from the standard form and structure inherent to film criticism. Too dry and dusty.
I call it Netflix Notes because the lovely people at Netflix are the ones who send me the films – for a price, of course. If... Continue reading »
