Lost – ‘The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham’ – 5.7

dharmed-3

I always try to lead with some non-sequitor (or at least, something that isn’t a direct commentary on the actual show content) so we’ll go with this. I’m really digging Lost’s placement on the schedule. Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. just does a great job of bisecting the week for me. I find myself beginning each work week with a slight spring in my step, knowing a new installment is only a few short days away and then by the time I’ve soaked it all in – it’s almost the weekend again.

Now, what will I do when the show departs the airwaves in May 2010. Maybe adopt Bromance as my personal savior. And with that, I apply a hearty pat on the back for knowing that I have zero knowledge of when THAT show even airs. Yeah, next May I’m going to have to light a candle. (sniffle).

With that said, on wit... Continue reading »

Lost – ’316′ – 5.6

dharmed-2

Looks like the Jack Pack ain’t the only one doing the time warp back to those hazy, crazy days of peace, love and the Dharma Initiative. Yup, I’ve been tripping alongside them. Now, if only I could remember where I left that Constant.

I’ve got to give mad props and big ups (sorry – still stuck in that 90’s groove after Fists of Flannel) – anyway, a hearty slap on the back is owed Joe D. for putting in a little bit of overtime after his marathon Photoshop sessions for Flannel to place my mug on some Dharma digs. He crafted three of them for me and I think I’ll use these in rotation for each of the Lost posts.

Thanks again, Joe.

With that said, on with the show. Let’s get Lost.

1.   Not a lot of island activity this week but plenty of activity in getting those ... Continue reading »

Fists of Flannel – Round 6 – Results Edition

[Editor's Note - The Leaderboard is below and MAKE SURE YOU SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM FOR A LITTLE SURPRISE!!!]

So, this is the end. Your only friend. The end.

Hard to believe we just burned another 3 weeks off the calendar. If I keep these contests flowing, we’ll be beachside in no time. Of course, I need a vacation a lot sooner than the lot of you so I’m going to take a little hiatus after this round. Plus, I don’t want to wear out my welcome.

I do have two ideas in mind for those interested. Sometime, next month, I’m going to run a little one-shot, one week contest. I call it Chick Flick or Dick Flick. I’ll give full rules when we get closer but the premise is that I run a series of recognizable quotes from movies and you have to... Continue reading »

Enjoying your holiday?

Well snap out of it. It’s time to get to work. While the rest of the world slumbers and meanders through their Monday, we begin the week in the final stretch. Two more rounds to go and if you don’t have total recall over Dawson’s Creek, there isn’t a President alive or dead who can save you now.

So, here’s the rules for those who have made it through two weeks and four rounds and are still tempted to call on the powers of the Internet to aid your cheating ways. The only rule is – No Cheating!!! No Google. No Yahoo. No Wikipedia. No... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘This Place is Death’ – 5.5

death-4

With 5 episodes down (and only 11 remaining this season), I thought it might be good to keep a running tally of how many episodes we have left until Lost is no longer found on a weekly basis. After this week, there’s only 27 episodes left.

With that said, it’s clear that the creators are heavily diving into answer mode. While they’ve managed to befuddle a few people with their time travel hijinks, as I wrote last week, they’ve found a great mechanism to resolve those lingering questions that have hovered over this fantasy island ever since Flight 815 splashed down in ’04. And that device has led to some great forward momentum in plot development even as we keep slipping further back in time.

Last night’s episode was a great example of that. A number of questions were answered and we g... Continue reading »

So, we’re halfway through the contest and in looking at the Leaderboard, I’m encouraged by the fact that of the Top 8 contestants, we are split evenly along gender lines. When coming up with these questions, I try to hit a whole range of topics so that it’s not all Guy-centric. These results seem to prove my point that I’m an equal opportunity inquisitor.

Or, that I’m hated equally by guys and dolls.

Anyway, you know the drill but I’m going to run through it again. You have until 6:30 a.m. EST Thursday February 12, 2009 to send me your ... Continue reading »

“When you used to tell me that you chase Ed, deep down I thought it was just a metaphor.”

Well, I hope everyone spent the weekend boning up on She’s All That, early UPN comedies and Mary’s “hairgel”. Who knows when you’ll need to whip those out?

So, we’ve got two rounds down and four more to go. As I always say, when we’re this early, it truly is anyone’s game. Now, the way the schedule will work is the same as last week. Two rounds (today and Wednesday) with the answers up on the following days.

You have until Tuesday morning... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘The Little Prince’ – 5.4

princeb

I had an epiphany while watching this episode. The time travel gimmick is the greatest thing to happen to Lost. Aside from the tantalizing twist it gave the story, it also works as a decent vehicle to get the show’s writers from here to the end point (May 2010) and allow them to work in all of those answers to our unsolved mysteries before the show sadly departs. With the island in a constant state of flux, those left behind are pinballed through time, giving them (and the viewer) a unique view into the island’s formative years.

Last night’s episode demonstrated this brilliantly. And while we merely got teases of what’s to come, it was clear that the writers can use time travel to dump all the information on us. Now, I don’t think every last dangling thread will be sewn shut, nor do I want i... Continue reading »

“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be an Ed.”

So here we are at Round 2 and it’s still early yet. At this stage, it’s anyone’s game. Especially if someone can tap Joe’s PC and provide evidence of his lying, cheating ways. (Joe – I kid. I used to room with you so the way I figure it is if I have all this useless knowledge in my head, it stands to reason that others do too.)

Anyway, Noelle brought up a good point in the comments last time. Regardless of score, she’s just here to have fun and play the game. And that’s what th... Continue reading »

I hope you’ve been studying because it’s on like Sisco’s Thong Song. (Yeah, I originally had Donkey Kong but that is soooooooooooooo 1983. And then I went Brian’s Song, but that’s just sentimental pap that doesn’t move anyone… oh, and it’s too 70′s. So Sisco it is.)

Anyway, most of you are repeat offenders so you should be in the know with what’s expected here. But for anyone new or for some of you perennial bottom feeders who apparently are unable to retain any prior knowledge whatsoever, I’ve posted the rules below.
