The Breakin’ Big Hair Brawl – Round 5 – Results Edition

Here we are at Round 5 and we have a number of traffic jams at the top, with 7 of the top 8 contestants tangled in a tie. With so many people playing, I drew up a contingency plan. If we should have a tie following the end of Round 6, for anyone in the top 3 slots, I’ll post a special playoff round of 5 Questions. And we’ll proceed in that fashion (Playoff Rounds of 5 Questions) until we have three clear-cut winners.
Let’s hope it never comes to that.
Now, I wanted to spotlight an incorrect answer I received in Round 3 simply because it made me laugh so much, I almost gave the dude extra credit. This will be lost on some of you but those of you that know the subject of the answer should find it absolutely perfect.

Good play Matt. It’s precisely that very reason that I didn’t go to Mook’s New Year’s Eve party. That and the fact that when the Evite was first sent out, there were exactly 3 guests listed.

When the correct answer eludes me, I DO try to be funny – but it usually tinged with just a hint of sarcasm that I CAN’T BELIEVE PEOPLE KNOW THIS STUFF!!!
And should I mention that tomorrow is my birthday and I am willing to trade my free meal at Denny’s for an extra point or two…

@ All:
In regards to question #7, there is apparently some nebulous evidence on the ‘net that there may or may not have been a Q*Bert cereal. There’s no concrete evidence to support it one way or the other (no pics – just some random fanboys spouting off about how much they love eating sugary balls) but there’s enough doubt there that I am giving everyone a Mulligan on this. No matter what you answer for #7, you get it right.

@Juice – I want this to be on the up and up. I’ve prided myself on coming up with all of these questions off the top of my head but I thnk that also reveals some hubris. I should have vetted that one better.
Now, the thing is – it’s real sketchy whether there was a Q*Bert cereal. When it was raised to me yesterday, I did some checking. The few references I could find from Wikipedia, Google and Yahoo searches are inconclusive and that’s putting it lightly. Just a handful of people who recall buying it sometime in the early 80′s.
My thing is – with so many people who collect so much arcane stuff, it’s suprising that there isn’t a pic of this cereal box or an ad or something – but there’s nothing out there. And I found a few sites devoted to Q*Bert merchandising, and specifically say he never had a cereal.
I don’t know, I think in all fairness, this is the equivalent of just tossing the question out.
It should be noted that this was not raised by a front runner. Those two bastards continue to keep me coming up with bonus round questions.

Gordon Shumway was the alias for the Alien Life Form…known as Alf!! Great show…something for kids and adults who listened carefully!!
Best showing ever for me so far! I will put Red Dawn on my queue, as never having seen it has COST ME time and time again! What is it, a cult film for you people??

@Aunt Sharon – Red Dawn, while probably severely dated by this time, was a classic 80′s flick. First off, it was the first film released with the PG-13 rating (so there’s a little bone in case it comes up in a future trivia contest – HINT – it won’t.) And it starred a portion of the Brat Pack in a fairly sobering adventure tale documenting a Russian takeover of the United States. I haven’t seen it since high school but remember loving it back then. It’s being remade for a 2010 release.

What they are going to remake Red Dawn? Doesn’t anyone in Hollywood have an original idea? That Land of the Lost… What’s next? A Gilligan’s Island remake? It has been on cable over the past couple of months and I get sucked in everytime. Give us more Red Dawn questions! Also, I was one of few people that loved ALF, so I can’t believe I didn’t get that questions.
