One of the perks of this gig is reading some of the crazy answers I get sent. In Round 1, when I asked what “Conjunction Junction’s” function was, about 1/4 of you thought we were taking the MCAS and gave me textbook definitions of what a conjunction does. We’re not taking the college boards people, I just want to know if you’ve seen Back to School.
Last round brought out the best batch of inanity. In response to my Breakin 2 inquiry into that flick’s classic subtitle, several of you had erased Electric Boogaloo from your memory banks (an act I thought impossible) so instead you offered me some alternate titles:

So is this or is this not an 80′s contest? I call shenanigans on #1. Good Times was absolutely on during the 80′s in re-runs and you can’t deny that Janet was in a supporting role. Since it ended in 79, I’m pretty sure it was still popular in 1980. Your willingness to include shows like Happy Days and characters like Snagglepuss even though they aren’t 80′s led me to assume that this would be acceptable. I know you are having fun with wordplay here, but c’mon, this one seems too underhanded.

Are you sure you won’t accept Peter Gabriel on #2? I mean, “Sledgehammer maybe didn’t have actual hand-drawn animation, but it was still pretty cool. Better than anything A-ha ever did.
I may be out of this one. And i had such high hopes. Could what they say about alcohol killing brain cells be true?

I am more shocked that as many people know “Jump the Shark” as know that Claire Huxtable was a Lawyer….Never I have I heard that term once….though I clearly remember the episode

@Juice: I only knew “Jump the Shark” from this past summer. A lot of people were talking that “Nuke the Fridge” — inspired by Indy4 of course — was the new “Jump the Shark”.
As for sour grapes, I know I won’t win my argument for Good Times with him, so I know I am just complaining for the sake of complaining. I am just bummed that I thought I had them all and this one killed me. Honestly, wording aside, it came to me instantly and I never would have thought Strokes because I don’t remember her being in it.
Damn… I should have started my previous comment with “Whatchoo talkin bout Willis?”

First off. In regards to Question 1, I swear I wasn’t being sneaky with word play. In fact, I was trying to be pretty definitive and specific about the era the show was on. It says quite clearly, “Which popular 80′s sitcom…” If I meant a 70′s show in heavy rotation, I would have worded it “Which popular 70′s sitcom, in heavy rotation in the 80′s, featured… blah blah blah”. So I was very careful in my wording.
I think the fact that only 7 of you got it wrong proves my point.
As for Happy Days, it ended its run in the 80′s so it’s legitimately an 80′s show.
Secondly, do you guys know how much hard work goes into this contest? My guess…. NO.
My only response… Suck it.

@Ed: You are correct on all your points and I’m not arguing; just bitching because I got it wrong after thinking at the time I answered I was absolutely right. Based on your wording, Strokes is absolutely, unquestionably the right answer. So yes, I will suck it even though I don’t know what “it” is.
As for the amount of work you put in, I think we all know it takes a large amount of effort and we all appreciate it.
What I really want to know is who are the nerds that answered Automan? I never even knew that show existed, never mind that it was a hologram vs. robot. (If you just guessed Automan, then you aren’t a nerd.)

I don’t know what’s worse. That some people answered Automan – a show that lasted 5 episodes (Google it – it looks like they ripped off Tron) or that my stupid brain remembered the damn thing to put it into a question – although obviously not well enough to know that a sentient hologram is not a robot.
My theory is that people don’t really know Automan, but picked it as the show that sounds so much like it has a robot in it that it couldn’t possibly have one. If so, I’d say that’s using some nice, twisted logic. You make me proud.
What cracks me up is all the people who said Buck Rogers. Of all the shows, I think that one was wall-to-wall with robots. If Jay Bain were here, he’d be shocked!!!

I have to admit the only reason I got the Robot question right was because I remember Jan Michael Vincent’s excellent acting the fact that is was Helicopter not a robot! I never really saw the show, but really like the movie with Roy Schider. The only other watchable movie of his beside Jaws that I can think of off the the top of my head. Didn’t really see the other three shows so I was glad I knew that one.
