The Breakin’ Big Hair Brawl – Round 1 – Results Edition

[UPDATE: The answers have been appended to the questions below. At the very bottom you'll find the current Leaderboard. Round 2 Questions will be up tomorrow morning - Wednesday January 7th 2009 - by 8:00 a.m. EST]
Here we are… Round 1 of The Breakin’ Big Hair Brawl. Many of you participated in the Ho Ho Ho Throwdown so you should know the rules but just in case all that egg nog fried your brain or you’re new to the game, here goes.
First, the contest is open to anyone.
Every other business day, starting today, I will post a round of 14 Eighties-themed Pop Culture trivia questions. Anyone who wants to participate can send their answers to me (don’t post them on the site) at theedzone@gmail.com. All answers must be received by 6:00 a.m. EST the following day. I will then compile the results and post the answers and a Leaderboard.
We’ll continue this through 6 rounds (3 per week) until we crown three winners who will walk away with some useless 80′s Pop Culture trinket and all the bragging rights in the world.
Now – because we are not staring each other down face-to-face, I need you on your honor. No Googling the answers. Just fire through them off the top of your head. C’mon – if you cheat, then you are dead to us.
Plus you’ll go to Hell. Or wherever the hell it is that Tangina warned Carol Anne to stay away from.
All right – with that out of the way, let’s get on with the game. Everyone has until 6:00 a.m. EST Tuesday January 6th to get me their answers.
Good luck.

Ouch. Much worse than I thought. Stupid Heather Locklear (The chick from Fall Guy was Heather Thomas!) And I mis-read that last question and only answered one. But I shall return!

Wasn’t Horshack and Epstein the same person?
Aunt Sharon

Horshack was the annoying skinny little guy with the heavy Brooklyn accent, and Epstein was the Puerto Rican kid.
I am still asking the question to the 13 of you who knew who Jan Hammer was….WHO IS HE/SHE and how did you remember that?? Did your compulsive credits-reading start back then?? Were you even allowed to stay up that late??

@Aunt Sharon – The Miami Vice theme was the first television theme to rocket to #1 on the Billboard Album Charts. It ended up winning a couple Grammys too. After that, almost 50% of the people playing this trivia game made a mental note to never forget Jan Hammer.

@Dursin – I intentionally threw The Fall Guy in there in hope of tripping up horndogs like you who can’t tell one blonde television starlet named Heather from another.
As for not reading the last question correctly, I return to my Ho Ho Ho Throwdown rant. If I don’t start seeing some improvement on the reading comprehension soon, I am going to launch The EdZone’s MCAS Exam next.

Dear Mr. Kotter,
CC: Dan
Please accept this note as confirmation that my son Juan Epstein is to Arnold Horshack as Mr. Woodman is to Vinnie Barbarino. That is to say, they are not the same person.
Sincerely,
Epstein’s Mother

@Aunt Sharon – One more thing on Jan Hammer. You forget that we grew up in an age where all the guys wanted to be Don Johnson and all the girls wanted to be with him.
(Well, either him or Bronson Pinchot).
The point being, we knew this show through and through and many a Casio was worn down trying to replicate the soothing synth-pop of Mr. or Mrs. Jan Hammer.
Incidentally, Jan’s a Man.

@Ed – ’nuff said…but I think I would have remembered little Ed running around with a soft stubble and a borrowed suit coat over your T-shirt pretending his schwinn was a powerboat!
I can remember the opening pulses of the song, but I am lost if it had any words…

No words – Just wailing guitars, followed by the throbbing beat of drums and then the Casio fires up. Mix that all together and you have the Miami Vice theme.
…or you have the beginnings of Roxette.

Guitars??? Wasn’t it a synthesizer?
And you referenced Roxette….I hope that was in your head from just singing them on Rock Band as opposed to what is currently playing in your car CD player…

All this Miami Vice talk has me pining to listen to Don Johnson’s song “Heartbeat” – just to remember those good Miami Vice times…
….not really…
