My Top 10 Posts of All Time – #10. Kicking and Screaming

As promised, I am going to begin running My Top 10 Favorite Posts of All Time, culled from the 300 I’ve published since January 2006. Yes, this smacks of narcissism but believe me when I say this is the only damned thing I’m good at. I can’t walk. I can’t talk. I can’t chew gum. Suprisingly, I can do all three at the same time.

Anyway, my plan is to run an installment every other post. So today you get #10, then I’ll run a normal post, then #9 and so on.

If you’ve read this one before, I forgive you for skipping it today. But if you haven’t, drop in for a look and remember to Comment Away!!!

10.   Kicking and Screaming (originally published March 23, 2006)

A few weeks back, I came this close to reprinting my Top 10 favorite posts as the lead-up to 300. Essentially, posts 290 – 299 would have been reprints, a cheat which Sean correctly deduced was simply my attempt to fast track the airing of embarrassing video of me in a towel toga and dime-store beard. So, I took Sean’s advice to heart and delayed this series until I hit that milestone proper.

Hopefully, by now, you have all thrilled to my celebratory video. I mean it when I say that I wouldn’t have gotten here without the support of your readership. This site has become a true collaborative.

Anyway, as I impatiently paced the halls waiting for inspiration to kick-start my neural synapses and get to work scrawling the 10 posts I needed to fill this year’s quota, I worked diligently on that video. As you know, the video celebrate the unique contributions each of you bring to this site which I tried to demonstrate by marrying choice quotes pulled from your own Comments in the past with candid shots I’ve taken of each of you over the years. (Joe – You might want to put on a sweater. It’s getting a bit nippy).

While running through the archives, I found that my original Top Ten list of favorite posts stayed pretty much intact with one exception. As I poured through the pages, I came across the piece featured today – Kicking and Screaming. It was my reaction to Adam Vinatieri’s signing with that other Evil Empire, the Indianapolis Colts. Given Vinatieri’s exceptional contributions to the Patriots (those mythic kicks in the Snow Bowl loom large), I decided to explore my thesis that there are some guys whose jerseys will never be mothballed no matter what team they sign with. Reading through this, I really keyed in on the Schilling segment – sentiments that mean even more today as the luster of the 2004 World Series victory fades in some corners.

But not here.

Thus, Kicking and Screaming replaces my original choice for # 10 - Trivial Hot Pursuit – which was my first official Blog entry at The Ed Zone. The archives will show that I did lead with one prior, Jukebox Zero, but that was a slight affair that really served as an introduction to the format. Trivial Hot Pursuit would be the first of many pieces where I employed “that Ed-Man style” to recount a true-life tale from my own so-called-life, enhanced with a generous smattering of hyperbole, exaggeration and flat-out lies to pump the tale up for maximum entertainment value. Let’s put it this way. These stories are real honest-to-goodness athletes possessing great ability who just so happen to juice for the fun of it.

Well, Trivial Hot Pursuit has slipped off the charts. Today I present my official #10 selection in My Top 10 Posts of all Time. Click the link and follow on over to Kicking and Screaming. And remember, if you like what you read or have something to add, leave a Comment there (or here).

On with the show.
