I'm on-board with Widemore (Ahab), like Alpert (Ishmael) and Abbadon (Queequeg), crew members of the Black Rock. In fact, I just added those names... are they those characters??? Hahaha... I'm throwing darts now. Anyway, I have thought since that auction earlier in the season that Widemore might be associated that way and that he has his wealth due to longevity. Not sure I ever stated it in a comment though...

So, even though I still don't like Locke much, I really enjoyed this episode. I especially liked his drawing of Smokey. I too was thinking the sand was what he was supposed to pick, but it was because it reminded me of the sand line that surrounded Jacob's cabin. That was sand, right?

Claire was too peaceful in that cabin. I'm with you, I think she died in the explosion. It adds up too nicely, especially with the Miles angle. He's not staring at her just cuz she's a hottie.

I was still think The Looking Glass is the teleporting station, not The Orchid, but given Ben was wearing a jacket that was from The Orchid station in Tunisia, you are probably right. Of course, I only know that because I just searched to see if I had the station name right and the Lostpedia pointed that out. As you know, I don't surf the intertubes for Lost info, preferring to figure things out on my own and with you and readers here. It also mentions a connection between the rabbits and the polar bear, so maybe I was right there...

My first thought on moving the island was that it wouldn't physically move it, but the magnetic properties would change slightly and the same bearing/heading/coordinates to get to it would differ, thus 305 would no longer work. However, no idea how that stops Keamy from killing everyone anyway...

Good call on Christian being in the cabin way back when. Remember looking at those HD shots and thinking it was him.

I noticed this again last night when they showed the "Previously, on LOST" stuff; did anyone else notice? -> Jack's Dad, in the cabin, when Locke first walks in and the Dad is in shadow; he looks just like Norman Bates, dressed like his mother, in Psycho. Eerie.

I've been to a few other sites and love the mythological/biblical/literary connections, but I've never seen anything succinctly explained in one place. Wouldn't that make a great post? :)

Almost forgot - there are a number of biblical names attached to key characters. Of particular note - Jacob and Aaron.

@Kerry - I think someone could base an entire grad school thesis on the mythological and biblical themes present in the show for sure. I mean, right off the bat, we have a character named - "Christian Shephard".

I've often thought that what the island is - is the physical manifestation/origin site of pure good and pure evil in the world and that it is necessary to protect the island/guard the island to prevent the balance of good and evil from being upset. That's why I think, at heart, Ben is the "good guy" he claims. He is forced to do some nefarious things to prevent absolute evil from gaining a foothold.

We've also touched on the skeletons (male and female) that Jack encountered in the cave in the first season (the ones with the black and white stones in their pockets).

Then there is the new character, Matthew Abbadon, who has appeared several times this season, most recently as Locke's orderly who encouraged him to go on a walkabout. Abbadon is "Hebrew" for "hellish domain".

I think I have to quit my day job just to track all of the various references that the Lost creators have woven into this quilt.

When Emily named the baby, we noted that she said, "His name is John.", which is a biblical quote from Elizabeth about John the Baptist. Has anyone on this site ever explored the religious themes on the show?
Luke 1:5-25, 57-66
