In Ed’s Head – ‘The Lookout’

All right, today begins the start of a new, regularly recurring series called In Ed’s Head.

First, a disclaimer. I’ve blatantly stolen this idea.

I first came across is at Ain’t It Cool News. Now, for the record, I am not a fan of site-runner Harry Knowles or his writing style and his site construction is in dire need of an extreme homepage makeover. That said, Knowles has assembled a crack team of excellent writers, with ‘Moriarty’ (aka Drew McWeeney) standing tall above them all. He really is very good and is always worth a read.

Anyway, Moriarty recently began a recurring series called ‘One Thing I Love Today’ where he takes time each day to simply write about something that really made him smile. Where Moriarty is often called upon to deliver in-depth ... Continue reading »

Abby at Seven

Today is Abby’s 7th Birthday.

It’s hard to believe it’s been that long since our first ‘child’ joined our family, but it has. In that time, Abby has weathered the addition of more family members and gladly given up segments of her spotlight, knowing full well that the more the merrier, the more people are present to shower her with hugs and pats.

Abby was our first ‘offspring’ – the grand experiment that some potential parents engage in before deciding that they are fit to raise children. Andi and I told ourselves, if we could just raise this creature from puppy to dog, then we’re a shoe-in for Mom and Dad of the Year. Of course, it’s easy to delude oneself in believing that a puppy is good practice for parenthood – if only children... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘The Shape of Things to Come’ – 4.9

Is it just me or did that month fly? When Lost went on hiatus we were still under the threat of winter storm activity and now that I write this, the mercury has hit 76 degrees. One would think that the journey from sub-zero temps to pleasant Spring days would take longer, but that calendar page tore itself with reckless abandon. So, the good news is I didn’t miss the show very much because it didn’t seem like it was gone too long.

A lot of that might have to do with how AMAZING last night’s episode was. I’m going to spare y’all the suspense. This one earns 5 Mooninites (a rarity on these pages) and I’m tempted to toss in a few Koopas and an Ebert head for good measure. It was that good.

Anyway, we have a LOT to chew on so without further adieu, on with the show.

I’m So Lost – Week 4

Whew. Made it to the end. Next up I’m going to tackle a 300 page dissertation of Gossip Girl. Anyone know what channel it’s on? By anyone, I mean Sean.

The good news with this post is we are now days away from Lost’s triumphant return. Lost’s return marks the beginning of May Sweeps which means Summer is right around the corner. I an ready for some warm weather, stat. I’ve got to get out of this house and away from the PC and TV – get some UV.

So far, we’ve tackled the Smoke Monster, the Numbers, Jacob, the Hatches, the Orientation Tapes, Charles Widemore/Alvar Hanso, The Island’s Healing Powers, Time Anomalies and the mysterious Walt. Today I offer up the three final mysteries.

On with the show.

I’m So Lost – Week 3

I don’t know why I cook these mini-series up. Sometimes I think I bite off more than I can chew. Trying to sum up a series, spanning 4 seasons thus far and spawning infinite mysteries, all to boil it down to 4 posts is asinine. Plus, there’s always that pesky Writer’s Block sneaking around my block, shaking its fist and threatening to steal all my valuable thoughts. If only I could just quit the Nine-to-Five and set to work wordsmithing then I wouldn’t feel like my brain was straining to just shut itself down at the end of each day.

Oh well, I got myself into this mess. I might as well work my way through. Hopefully you guys are grooving on this little exercise aimed at keeping us Lost obsessed as we weather this brief hiatus.

So far, we’ve tackled the Smoke Monster, the Numbers, Jacob, t... Continue reading »

I’m So Lost – Week 2

Previously on Lost.

Seriously, that’s what these posts are starting to read like. Who knows what vital knowledge has been chased from my brain in my drive to compile an encyclopedic volume of Lost minutiae. Hey, anything for my rabid readers. My children, Carter and Ariel, thank ya’ as well.

Anyway, last week we covered ol’ Smokey, those devilish digits and jumpin’ Jacob’s flash. This week, we delve into ‘The Hatch’, pour through the Orientation tapes and finish off with an introduction to the billionaire boys club of Alvar Hanso and Charles Widemore.

On with the show.

By a Nose

Something suddenly came up.

That’s what I kept repeating to myself – Marsha Brady’s little mantra. “Something suddenly came up.” It would be my go to excuse should I emerge from my septoplasty surgery (read: nose job) resembling Owen Wilson’s crooked peak.

Of course, that’s where your friends and the Internet will lead you. The dark pit of despair – second-guessing your decision to finally, after years of clutching Kleenex by the fistful, reshape your schnoz.

I’m getting a little ahead of myself. While I had originally billed my recent surgery as a little of the ol’ nip/tuck, what I found was the septoplasty was completely internal. As I wrote in these pages a few weeks back, the procedure was selected to correct my deviated septum – a problem that has... Continue reading »
