This year marks the 5th Annual Humphries Family Christmas Letter. Since we began this little tradition (Yes, I know, I didn’t actually create the concept of an Annual Christmas Letter. As with the Internet, Global Warming and Extreme Ultimate Fighting Competitions, it’s all Al Gore’s fault.) – anyway, in the five years that we have been dropping in uninvited, my life has seen the arrival of two new cars, two hearth-warming homes, two beautiful children, two playful pups and two wonderful wives. (Oops… did I just write that last part out loud?)
All kidding aside, the last five years have been one helluva’ ride. As with years’ past, I’ll fill you all in with a few sentences on each member of my loving family before closing it all out with a heart-tugging display of holiday cheer.
First up, our Little Princess – Aria Leigh. I say Little Princess because... Continue reading »
This is it – the last round. Of course, heading into Round 6, we are all tied up – with Jason and Aunt Sharon boasting 40 points a piece (out of a possible 50). Could it get any tighter?
Should we reach a stalemate at the end of these 10 questions, I’ll start launching one question bonus rounds until we declare a winner. Once we put the Ho Ho Ho Throwdown to bed, I have another game in the works – the 2007 version of the Mii Match game.
Of course, that’s for another day. On with the show.
Round 6

The photo above was taken this evening outside my home. With another Nor’Easter on fast approach for this weekend - promising a healthy mixture of snow, sleet and rain set to join forces with the 11″ of packed powder that’s already fallen on the Humphries house, it’s looking more and more like we’re in for that long lost White Christmas.
Today’s dire storm warnings sent me scurrying from work early – allowing me extra time to post 2 Rounds of the Ho Ho Ho Throwdown in one day. For those following the event, Round 4 saw Jason move into a tie with Aunt Sharon – with both contestants sporting 32 points a piece (out of a possible 40).
With this throwdown all knotted up, break out the HGH as this competition is about to grow fierce. Oh yes, there will be blood.
On with the show.

One more round down and once again our competitors are separated by a slim two-point lead. Heading into Round 4, Aunt Sharon leads Jason 24 to 23. Will the son finally overtake the Mom or will Mommy Dearest lock her son in the closet for good?
On with the show.
Round 4

31. In The Waitresses’ yuletide hit “Christmas Wrapping”, at what supermarket do they find the world’s smallest turkey?
Answer: A & P (Jason – 23, Aunt Sharon – 24)

32. What is the secret code/message that Little Ralphie cracks with his Little Orphan Annie decoder ring in A Christmas Story?
After two rounds of fierce competition, we are still neck and neck. Heading into Round 3, Aunt Sharon edges Jason 15 to 13. That’s a slim margin and with four rounds to go – this contest is still up for grab.
Before we begin Round 3, I have a quick programming note.
My site is designed to feature the two most recent posts (in descending chronological order). After that, the items drop down to the bottom of the page or shuffle off to Archives. Just this morning I dropped 90+ Christmas Cards/Letters in the mail – each with a shameless plug for The Ed Zone embedded within. As I anticipate a slight uptick in readership over the next few days (you know, those beloved friends and family who drop in on this site once a year when reminded that I am still out here – begging for their attention) – anyway, I am going to post my Annual... All right. The results are in and we officially have a contest. A thin line separates Aunt Sharon from Poe Gostal a.k.a. my cousin Jason. While Poe took the early lead, Aunt Sharon staged an impressive comeback.
Could things get any more dramatic? Any more biblical? We’re talking Mother against Son here.
All right, once more we step into Thunderdome. Two family members enter. One family member leaves.
On with Round 2.
Round 2

11. Who plays the role of Ebeneezer Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol?
Answer: Michael Caine (Jason – 6, Aunt Sharon – 8

12. In the movie Christmas Vacation, what does... Continue reading »
As promised, here are the questions from the Humphries Family 3rd Annual Christmas in the Sticks. I know that I mentioned this party marks our seventh festive fiesta but this was only the third one held where Donners fear to tread – hence the fuzzy math. Math? Hey, they just got the abacus out this way.
I decided to turn this into a little contest. Similar to my Mii Match contest last winter (of which I am currently prepping another installment – just in time for the holidays), I will post a series of questions (one round every other day) and all of those who would like to enter can simply ‘Ring In’ by leaving a Comment below along the lines of “I’m In” or “Aunt Sharon Dizzles in da’ house”. Then e-mail me your answers to theedzone@gmail.com. After each round’s deadline expires, I’ll post the results and we’ll move on to the next round.
As the actua... Continue reading »
