This is a list of posts published in October 2007.

This is it – the last blast of Mookie’s wedding past. If he and Kerry want me to write anymore, they’re gonna’ have to get remarried. I’ve written so much in the last week that I haven’t the vocabulary to go on. From now on, when I need something – like sustenance – I’m going to be reduced to a monosyllabic “Me Food Need”.
That said, I do have a little more juice in the tank to offer up one final post.
As I wrote in my Comment appended to Volume II, every once in awhile I like to run a little feature called “Picture Pages” (Yes, I stole the title from that old show Bill Cosby used to host – all I remember about it is he had a pen that made some crazy noises and a friend named Mushmouth – wait, am I getting Bill Cosby projects mixed up).
Anyway, the Picture Pages segments usually feature... Continue reading »

Finally, they won one in Aria’s lifetime.
Last night, Red Sox Nation enjoyed a collective burst of deja vu as history looped back upon itself and replayed the ending to that euphoric 2004 World Series conclusion; with the 2007 Boston Red Sox matching that fabled team’s complete domination of a vaunted National League squad to grab victory and bring that blessed trophy back to Beantown. With last night’s season ending sweep against the Colorado Rockies, the Sox echoed the mission statement our heroic New England Patriots have been broadcasting for years now.
This truly is the best of times.
In 2004, the win was as cathartic as it was joyous – a mass exorcism of those ghosts that had haunted so many past Octobers. Of course, we were all ecstatic – who didn’t call someone that evening fearful they were waking a loved one only to find buoyant good... Continue reading »
Here it is, Volume II in my little mini-series of tributes and homage to the wedding of my close friend Mark ‘Mookie’ McGrath and his lovely bride, Kerry Logan. In my first post, I touched upon a few details of the big day while reserving the bulk of space for the text of my Rehearsal Dinner speech.
I’d like to use this space to color in the corners and bring to life the various elements that came together so perfectly to craft a picture-postcard wedding. I’ll bring you from Friday evening’s rehearsal to Sunday afternoon’s wedding and reception and if you are lucky, perhaps a peek into the boudoir. (Mark – ya’ better start scouring the area for cleverly concealed Nanny Cams. My readers demand Mookie Booty!!!)
All joking aside, one of my goals in drafting these posts is the simple desire to create an on-line scrapbook for Mark and Kerry. While I have tried to docum... Continue reading »
Our little boy is all grown up!!!
On a postcard perfect October Sunday afternoon - accented by a sun-drenched sky of brilliant blue – I bore witness to the marriage of my close friend Mark ‘Mookie’ McGrath to a truly wonderful woman, Kerry Logan. As the two locked eyes and united their souls in eternal bliss, elsewhere hearts were breaking in unison as the world said goodbye to two great catches and offered a warm welcome to one very special couple.
As one of Mark’s groomsmen (Joe and Sean rounded out our stable – with Mark’s brothers Kevin and John standing beside their elder bro as his Best Men), I shared an intimate view of the big day. Simply put, the wedding was spectacular.

Boston Sucks!!! Boston Sucks!!!
Boston. We have arrived.
Just three short years after Theo Epstein began his reclamation project to tear down our beloved Idiots and build a better Bronx Bombers in Beantown, Theo has succeeded in infecting us with the madness of King George. Corporate culture has officially replaced clowns like Cabrera, Millar and Damon. Now we have drones like J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo approaching each at bat in the most officious (if not efficient) manner and the front office couldn’t be happier.
Ahhhh, those long, lost Idiots. A more retched hive of scum and villainy you’d be hard pressed to find outside of Mos Eisley or Chelsea. How a pack of JD swilling sad-sack losers ever managed to come back from an 0-3 deficit against the feared New York Yankees and proceed to sweep the Cardinals and carry home the first World Series trophy in 86 years, I’ll never know. Hey,... Continue reading »

You’re gonna’ be sorry.
If there is one lesson that I aught to tattoo upon my brain, it’s don’t get wrapped up in first class quality television. The more original, the more daring, the more compelling – the more likely a program is tossed aside in favor of cheaper, less risky, easy-to-digest mass market morsels of whatever craze has seized the cultural zeitgeist.
That said, I’m not here to bash ‘reality’ shows or usher Cavemen along to their inevitable extinction. Instead, I’m here to beg, bother and down right threaten your dog to watch the one program I feel is destined to be discovered by you years down the road on DVD. And when that inevitable question comes – “Ya’ know. That was a damned fine show. Who cancelled such a fine hour of programming?” – I’ll offer up a mirror.
It was all your fault.
It’s happened before. ... Continue reading »

Well, that makes two consecutive Boston sports-themed posts where I’ve cribbed from Clancy for the title. Fear not, Bear and Dragon fans. I can’t stand the Bruins.
The Red Sox, however, have my heart forever.
Over the weekend, the family and I headed North for our traditional Columbus Day Weekend getaway to Limerick, Maine. There, in that quiet hamlet just a shade south of Portland, rests Andi’s Dad’s lake house that has played host to her Dad’s extended family for an annual autumnal get-together for as long as I’ve been in the picture (and many years past).
Although the attendees change from year to year (we’ve missed a couple ourselves when weddings or other events have intervened), the trappings of the weekend remain the same. A lot of R & R dotted with apple picking excursions, boat rides across the lake and trips to our favorite... Continue reading »
