One more thing - I don't think the Marvel association with bad third movies is entirely a coincidence. I think Marvel is almost too intergrated into the creative process with their filmed properties - to their own detriment. It was Marvel that forced Venom upon Raimi and I think that decision ultimately weighed down the film. The problem with this film is there is so much potential there for a great flick - the raw material is in place - it just suffers from some giant holes and also some major filler.

'Entertaining mess of a movie' is as apt a description as I've encountered.

I actually meant to give it 2 & 1/2 Eberts. That will be remedied soon enough.

The funny thing was - when I started writing this, I meant for it simply to be a Blog post not a true review of the film - hence I simply focused on some of the things that really stood out or got stuck in my craw. After reading through, I realize it comes off sounding like a full-fledged review, thus I slapped the Ebert tag on the end.

I guess the critial quotient in me is my own symbiote. I'll have to go see if I can track down a kindly one-armed college professor to help me out of my jam.

Oh, and if you like J.K. Simmons, check out Oz. That'll change your tune.

Kidding of course - he is always spot on as JJJ.

Personally I'd give it two Eberts. An entertaining mess of a film. Not as awful as any of the Star Wars prequels (the dialogue wasn't bad enough), but definitely inferior to the first two films.

This marks the third time in a row that a Marvel franchise has had a lackluster third entry (<em>Blade Trinity, X3</em>).

And how can you not mention the incomparable J.K. Simmons? He's my favorite part of these movies.
