Gathering Moss

By now, everyone has heard the INCREDIBLY SHOCKING NEWS that the Patriots scored NFL bad boy, Randy Moss, for a 4th Round draft pick this past weekend. ESPN’s Sports Guy, Bill Simmons, has a great piece that touches on the weekend’s festivities and spotlights the five possible explanations for Belichick’s gambit. It’s a great read and very funny. I pulled the following from his piece but you really should go read the whole thing now. Great stuff from that guy… as always. Anyway, Bill writes:

“You have to admit, at the very least, we have the greatest “Madden” offense in Patriots history: Brady, Maroney, Watson, Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Caldwell, Gaffney, Brown. I mean … are you kidding me? Can I run a seven-receiver offense next year? Is that legal?”

Lost – ‘D.O.C.’ – 3.18

doc-cap562.jpg

In past seasons, a Jin/Sun flashback episode would have served as backbone to a stand-alone episode where the show takes a breather from the myth building and spends an hour on developing character.

But that was all before we discovered Sun was pregnant and given The Others pre-disposition towards body snatching Baby Mommas, a Jin/Sun flashback episode can no longer guarantee we all take a breather.

So – in keeping with the forward momentum enjoyed over the past several episodes, the Jin/Sun-centric ‘D.O.C.’ provides some more answers while twisting the screws of our castaways a bit more.

Anyway, on with the show.

1. We learned that ‘D.O.C.’ stands for Date of Conception. In this episode, Sun confessed her pregnancy to Juliet following a disquieting discussion with Jack where he inquired into the status of her pregnancy. With this exchange, an... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘Catch-22′ – 3.17

catch22-cap605.jpg

I’m a little behind so I am going to catch up in two quick posts.

Catch-22 was Desmond-centric and while not as stellar as the mind-bender ‘Flashes Before Your Eyes’ it still offered up enough little details to keep me interested the whole way through. Besides, any episode that begins with Charlie getting an arrow through the trachea is one worth settling down for. And when that episode decides to replay the slaying numerous times over… well, that’s just pure bliss.

All right – on with the show.

1.   As I mentioned above, this episode began with Charlie taking an arrow through the throat (courtesy of Roussaud’s ’security system’). He then died a particularly nasty death in Desmond’s arms as he choked on his own blood. Then we were hit with a mosaic of scattered images and the truth became k... Continue reading »

Hanging Out

haley-and-colin.jpg

Well, what to your wandering eyes should appear but a Blog post on Ed’s website with no reference to Lost there.

Yes, it’s true, I have a life outside of the boob tube. Hey, to be fair, there’s a limited number of television shows that I watch (I can count ‘em all on one hand) so while the critics may blast me for the wall-to-wall Lost coverage, I humbly submit that the only difference between you and me is I take the time to transcribe my thoughts on that show while the rest of you bound down the dial to discover just WHO will BE the next Pussycat Doll. (My money’s on Sanjaya.)

The good news for those who come here seeking some insight into the life Humphries is in scribing this return to form, I feel good. It’s a little too easy to look at Blogging as work and when that happens, the inspiration well runs dry. When yo... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘One of Us’ – 3.16

oneofuscap-248.jpg

A few weeks back, I raged against the machine that keeps grinding out the same old tired complaint - Lost never gives us answers. A quick run through the last few episodes has answered plenty. Hell, even the Nikki-Paulo episode provided Sun with answers to her Season 2 kidnapping.

The point is – these answers have come in a very satisfying way – meaning they provide just enough for us to chew over – enough clues for us to decipher – a heaping helping of brain candy to chew upon – without divlugling every last intricacy of the central mystery. After these last few episodes, starting with Locke’s ‘The Man from Tallahasse’, I declare that the naysayers don’t have much leg to stand upon. If you jumped ship when Hurley started spinning donuts in his Little Miss Sunshine van, then good riddance. For those that are in it f... Continue reading »

The First Rule of Fight Club… SMASH!!!

Aint it Cool News has been running rumors which have just been confirmed by a piece in Variety earlier today. Edward Norton has been cast as Bruce Banner in the forthcoming Hulk sequel. These comic flicks just keep impressing with their casting. I’ve already gushed about the way The Dark Knight is coming together and now seeing Tyler Durden’s best bud cast as the conflicted Bruce Banner makes for a nice bit of synergy.

Lost – ‘Left Behind’ – 3.15

left-behind-cap0879.jpg

I’m sort of divided on this episode. While I enjoyed the island developments, the flashbacks left me cold. In fact, Kate’s last few flashbacks have grown tiresome. It might have something to do with the fact that as we parse through the details of “What Kate Did” we learn that it really isn’t THAT shocking.

I remember that early episode where Kate robbed a bank, shot her accomplices and ran off with a safety deposit box (which contained a toy plane). It was so pregnant with possibility. With such a large manhunt assembled to find Kate Austin, I was holding out hope that she had some major secret. Since then, it’s been pretty routine, with her frequent run-ins with Frederic Lane’s dogged marshal playing like a shadow of the Tom Hanks-Leo DiCaprio dynamic in Catch Me if You Can.

Last night’s flashback did nothing to sway my opinion. ... Continue reading »

Lost – ‘Expose’ – 3.14

lost_s03e14dd578.jpg

I imagine, much like Nikki and Paulo’s sudden appearance, this episode divided viewers into the Love it or Hate it camps – or Front Section/Tail Section if you’re looking for a Lost-themed euphemism.

Me? I LOVED It. This was a clever stand-alone hour that worked on numerous levels.

First and foremost, it was Lost’s variation on the classic whodunit, with our resident beachcombers struggling to uncover the how and why of Nikki and Paulo’s untimely ‘demise’. To that end, it was also a classic morality play, with an ending ripped from the pages of Tales from the Crypt (I’ll dive into that in my observations below). Finally – and most fittingly, Expose was a winking in-joke; a celebration of the Red Shirt (that token background character made famous in the original Star Trek who is given just enough lines to move the plot along before fate ...
