TomKat’s hitched. I’ve lost track of Bennifers One through Nine. And please, spare me your tales of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – that Brangelina is soooooooo last year.

Nope – we’re on the cusp of a new year and as we bid adieu to 2006 and usher in 2007 – along comes our new celebrity sensation. For this new year is the year that we all partake in a little Kerryookie session.

That’s right – the news has officially hit the wire. Mark (a.k.a. Mookie) and his main squeeze, Kerry, have officially announced their engagement. Word on the street is that Mook popped the magic question this past Friday, December 22nd, as the two dined at the very same restaurant they visited on their first date. Although reports are sketchy, fellow diners say they were stunned – then pleasantly surprised – when Mook punctuated the question with a stirring a cappella rendition of The Cardigan’s lovefool “Love me, love me… say that you’ll love me…” which he then followed up with an encore performance of Hollaback Girl. Kerry then joined Mook for a duet of the Huey Lewis – Gwyneth Paltrow chestnut Cruisin’ before bringing down the house with Islands in the Stream. The joy was so infectious that the other patrons soon joined in on all the Kerryookie fun with a rousing rendition of Sweet Caroline.

All joking aside, we at The Ed Zone want to extend our most sincere congratulations and warm wishes to Mark and Kerry. I have known Mark for well over a decade now and consider him to be one of my closest friends. He’s a good guy to watch a game with yet he can switch gears and jaw at the book club with equal aplomb. In Kerry, I think he has found his perfect match – as she is so warm and friendly and funny – and the two compliment each other very nicely.
