Plea for V
V for Vendetta released on DVD earlier this week. If you’ve followed my lists of ‘favorite things’, you’ve read how high I am on this flick. Do yourself a favor - buy a copy sight unseen. It’s that good a movie and I guarantee it will grip you. It’s not the half-baked Matrixy rip-off the marketing wanted you to believe. There’s a lot to chew on here - but ultimately this film is about the ideal of ideas and the power of a word - ‘No’.

Did you get it yet?

Bought it Tuesday and watched it that night with Andi. I love watching favored films with someone who hasn’t seen it yet. Usually these types of movies aren’t her first pick - but she seemed to appreciate it - which I have a feeling is the reaction a lot of people will have if they give it a chance.
I find the film stirring - that score by Dario Marianelli is one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard in years - and it nicely underscores a truly excellent film.
I feel like I am on the same campaign that I waged when Dark City released. I got a few converts then. I hope to get more now.

Karen loved V for Vendetta, for the record. I’ll be picking up the DVD at some point.

Newbury Comics has the 2 disc special edition for $21.99, which is a buck cheaper than Best Buy, so I think I am getting that one. I’ll probably grab it tomorrow on the way home from work and watch it that night. I really can’t wait to see it again.

I’m already trying to make a list of people who I know who haven’t seen it who would appreciate it who could make it out to my tiny little burg to watch it again with me. I’d try to initiate the townsfolk but first I’d have to give them a primer on fire before working my way up to more technological advances like cathode rays and P@rn-on-Demand. I don’t wanna’ shock ‘em all back to the 17th century.
Anyway - my plea has worked. Mook tells me he bought the 2-disc special edition at NC. He hasn’t seen the movie yet so he is going off word of mouth.

Wait a minute, Mook buying anything sight unseen is nothing new. If the guy hadn’t had a girlfriend for almost a year, he’d be mail-order bride shopping right now!

Just finished watching. Love it just the same the second time around and I definitely noticed the score more on the second shot. I think I am going to go pick that up too.
For those looking to purchase, don’t bother with the two-disc set. The extras aren’t worth it at all. Didn’t even get any deleted scenes. You’ll save yourself $8-9.
