Fellowship of the Scoobs

Perusing The Ed Zone’s sister site, Scooby Speak, I came across this post from Jen Pope. JPo (to those in the know) provided a link to MyHeritage.com – a website which among other things, features a free facial recognition software program that allows the user to upload a picture of their face, perform an analysis and provide them with feedback on which celebrity they resemble.
That got my neural synapses sparking. I decided that over the next couple weeks, The Ed Zone would play host to a celebrity roll call. Pulling faces randomly from the cast of characters that dominate my circle of friends, I came up with the following idea.
Each day, this site will feature a select Scoob. We will lead off with a few kind words about that day’s subject coupled with a photo. I will then offer up my prediction of which actor should play that person in the fictional Scooby film – based solely on physical likeness. Behind the scenes, I’ll run them through the program and then post a side-by-side comparison of the person and the celebrity that MyHeritage feels most resembles said Scoob. Finally we’ll follow up with one last comparison – which celebrity should actually play the Scoob – based on personality. At that point, I encourage everyone to comment away on the target of the day.
I have drafted a list of ten — UPDATE: added two more for 12 — subjects. If this takes off, I’ll keep going with it, adding more peeps to the perp line. The order is as follows:
Friday April 7th Mark McGrath
Saturday April 8th Joe Dolat
Sunday April 9th Andi Humphries
Monday April 10th Ed Humphries (Guest Writer – Mark McGrath)
Tuesday April 11th Jen Pope
Wednesday April 12th Rich Gobeil
Thursday April 13th Kathie Schaaf
Friday April 14th Chris Kiatos
Saturday April 15th Justin Smith
Sunday April 16th Dana Boudreault
Monday April 17th Oliver Kardos
Tuesday April 18th Sean O’Brien
Feel free to Comment on this post with your predictions. Get 7 right, and I’ll bring you to Dairy Queen. (Damn’t, I’m bringing someone to DQ before this year is out.)
First up, Mook Daddy.

Sure, let me just point you in the direction of the photos of me that didn’t come up Meathead or Hasselhoff.

[...] To kick off the Scooby Casting challenge, I decided we needed to open larger than life. What better personality to start with than the guy who consistently vaults the velvet ropes to earn appearance time in most every Blog I write. Hey, I’m just angling to make Mook a household name – anything to bump TomKat off these pages. [...]

Why is Andi exempt from this delightful exercise?

She’ll get hers. This is just Round 1. We expand the field after this. I picked the Top 10 randomly via hat method. You got thrown in the mix in honor of finding the site. Well done, JPo.

Jen, I was going to ask the same question. Seems I have been left out of the scoobs.

This was completely random - however Andi has been added to the mix. I imagine I’ll be receiving my divorce papers within the week.

[...] First, some housecleaning. The Scoob Casting Challenge is still on, but that ambitious one-a-day schedule has fallen by the wayside. I think we’ll sprinkle a few in - take a couple days in order to focus on other topics (such as the unfortunate loss of my limb) and then rinse and repeat. I also owe a 24 and Lost update. 24 is coming tomorrow. Lost on Friday. [...]

[...] After a couple days off, we begin Round 2 of the Scoob Casting Challenge. For those keeping count, this is Day 4. Thus far, we have successfully cast the roles of Mook, Joe and Andi (the latter leaving me married to the Diceman). [...]

[...] Here we are, Day 5 of the Scoob Casting Challenge - and the dreaded Eye of Sauron steadies its gaze on another poor soul. To date, we have successfully cast the roles of Mookie, Joe and Andi. Of course, what is past is prologue. It’s time we come out swinging at the heavy hitters. [...]
